Gaya: Maoists loot, torch houses

Gaya: Armed Maoists burnt several houses, including that of a BJP leader, and looted valuables worth Rs 50 lakh in Imamganj area of Naxal hit Gaya district in Bihar early on Thursday, the police said.

The Maoists held a kangaroo court that passed an order for 'attachment of properties' of Dhanraj Sharma, BJP's Gaya district vice-president and a close aide of the Bihar Assembly Speaker U N Choudhury, and eight others at Kotiya village for working against them.

Over 400 ultras surrounded the village and set on fire the house of Sharma and others one by one, besides looting jewellery and other valuables worth over Rs 50 lakh, according to the FIR lodged by the villagers.

They also took away a tractor and four motorcycles.

This is first work of violence committed by the Maoists after the Election Commission announced a six-phase assembly poll in Bihar from October 21.
