Ghaziabad:
Nine policemen were suspended and three others, including a station house officer, taken off active duty in connection with the alleged custodial death of a teenaged Dalit boy in Loni police station in Ghaziabad.
Family members of Rishi Kumar, 19, had on Thursday staged a road blockade claiming he was beaten to death after being tied to a lamp post in police station.
SSP Raghubir Lal, who first defended the policemen saying that the victim was beaten up by public and had died on way to a hospital, later placed nine policemen under suspension.
Three officers, SHO Avnish Gautam and two sub-inspectors Ajai Kumar and Avdesh Kumar, were transferred to police line.
The SSP has also written to Inspector General of Police, Meerut zone, Chander Prekash to conduct an inquiry.
A departmental inquiry will be conducted by circle officer, Sahibabd, Rajiv Kumar, officials said
