Ghaziabad: Boy murdered after scuffle over cricket match

Ghaziabad: A class X student was arrested for allegedly killing his classmate over a row during a cricket match in the district, police said today.

Ankur, a student of KN Modi Inter College, was arrested yesterday for murdering Sumit on the basis of information provided by the students of the class, Inspector, Modinagar, R K Singh told said.

Sumit's body was found near a railway track on January 27, 2009, in Modinagar, about 25 km from here. Police said the body bore injury marks caused by a blunt object and conducted the post-mortem.

During questioning, Singh claimed, Ankur confessed to the crime and narrated the incident. Ankur told police that Sumit defeated them in class cricket match and they had a scuffle but the matter was resolved.

Later in the evening, Ankur along with his four classmates called Sumit at the playground and assaulted him with cricket bats and iron rods. Sumit died on the spot after which they threw his body near the railway track, Singh said.
