Ghaziabad:
A 19-year-old first year student of an engineering college near Ghaziabad allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the roof of his hostel building. The student's family suspects it was a fallout of ragging.
Abhishek Sahai was taken to hospital where he was in coma for a while before he died. The incident happened on Sunday night.
Abhishek's family alleges the he took the extreme step after being ragged. His family members claim he sent his friend a text message on Sunday night saying he was being ragged and soon after that jumped off the hostel roof.
"A friend of his had gone to meet him and he sent him a text message saying, 'I can't come, I'm being ragged.' The message is still there on the cell phone and there's a message on Facebook too," said Abhishek's brother Shrivanshu.
The college, however, denies that ragging was the reason behind the death.
"There was no ragging. He was up there alone. His classmates also confirmed this. Nobody can access the roof except 1st year students as it is surrounded by fences," said Anil Verma, the PRO of Abhishek's college.
