The girl's family alleged that she was denied admission despite having a high body temperature.
Firozabad: A five-year-old girl died of dengue in front of her parents after they ran from pillar to post for over three hours to get her admitted to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad.
The tragic incident was witnessed by an NDTV team who was at the hospital reporting on the surge in dengue cases in Firozabad.
Sawanya Gupta was reportedly brought to the hospital at 8 am but was only admitted around noon. She was declared dead soon after being admitted.
"My sister would have been safe had we been provided treatment on time. We told staff about her condition but they did not pay heed to our request," the girl's brother told NDTV.
The young girl, the family members have alleged, was denied admission despite a raised body temperature.
"Doctors did not do anything. They want only money," another relative alleged while sitting in the hearse with the girl's body.
The Yogi Adityanath government has been criticised over its handling of the dengue outbreak in the state.
Last week Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati claimed that many patients were dying due to the lack of proper arrangements in government hospitals.
"In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic in UP, the outbreak of dengue and other mysterious fever has engulfed almost the entire state at a very fast pace. Due to lack of proper arrangements in government hospitals, many patients are dying which is a matter of concern," she tweeted in Hindi.
Firozabad, which is about 300 kms from state capital Lucknow, has been battling an outbreak of dengue and deadly viral fever for the past two weeks, leaving over 60 people dead. More than 16 deaths have been reported in the district in the last 48 hours.
Some cases have been found in neighbouring Mathura, Agra and Mainpuri as well.
