Girl commits suicide for denial of higher studies opportunity

Rourkela: Denied permission by her parents for higher studies, a tribal girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Kilinga village in Sundargarh district.

Sakuntala's (17) father, Panu Lakra, had fixed her marriage against her wish as she was in favour of continuing with her studies, police said.

Sakuntala ended her life by consuming pesticide on Tuesday. She was rushed to hospital where doctor announced her brought dead, the police said.

Students of Vedvyas College, where she was a plus two student, mourned her death.
