Girl robbed own valuables to stall her marriage

Raipur: A college girl was on Friday arrested along with her boyfriend for robbing cash and valuables worth over Rs 10 lakh from her residence in Durg district, police said.

Vinita Gupta, who was against her marriage fixed by her parents, had hatched a conspiracy with her boyfriend, Ishu Prasad Banchor, who was also her neighbour, and handed him valuables, including 220 grams of gold ornaments, five kgs of silver and cash of Rs two lakh when her parents had gone out of town to distribute the wedding card, Durg, SP, Dipanshu Kabra told PTI.

Vinita's mother, Meena Gupta, had lodged a robbery complaint with the police on May 8.

The police team, investigating the case, suspected that Vinita was involved in the robbery, Kabra said.

On interrogation Vinita said she was in love with Ishu and did not want to marry according to her parents wish, Kabra said, adding she told the police that she handed over the valuables to Ishu, who handed the booty to one of his friend Lekhni.

Vinita, Ishu and his friend, Lekhni, were arrested, he said.

"Vinita was not willing to get married as she was interested in Ishu, thus she took this extreme step by robbing in her own house, when her parents were not at home," he said.
