Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh):
A 15-year-old girl was set ablaze by a youth for resisting his advances, police said on Thursday. While the girl is battling for her life, her attacker is yet to be arrested.
The girl, a resident of Chandrapura village, was attacked in her home by Angad, 20, also a native of the same village.
Though the incident took place late on February 14, police officials claim they came to know about it on Thursday, after the victim's father approached them.
"According to the girl's father, Angad tried to molest his daughter while she was alone in the house and later escaped after setting her ablaze," police inspector Mahendra Pratap told reporters in Lakhimpur, some 200 km from Lucknow.
"A criminal case has been registered against Angad and efforts are on to nab him. The victim, who has suffered multiple burns is being treated at a hospital in Sitapur district. Her condition is stated to be critical," he added.
