Goa: Russian businessman faces murder charge

Panaji: A 41-year-old Russian has been booked on murder charges after a local, who was allegedly assaulted by the accused succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, police said.

"Russian businessman Alexander Borowski, who was arrested for attempt to murder, will now be charged under murder offence," Superintendent of police (North) Bosco George told PTI.

Borowski (41), who runs a bar in Morjim village, had assaulted 43-year-old Ravi Shetgaonkar over a petty brawl on February 11 night, seriously injuring the local.

The trouble began when Borowsli picked up a quarrel with the local group including Shetgaonkar after they objected to his car lights beaming on them.

The verbal duel turned into a brawl following which the Russian, who is down in the state on business visa assaulted Shetgaonkar, police said.

The irate group in turn attacked the Russian, who suffered minor injuries in the scuffle.

Shetgaonkar was admitted to Goa Medical College in serious condition, where he died today, police said.

Pernem police station had registered complaint and counter complaints by the Russian and locals.
