Goafest 2010: Mumbai girl falls from 200 m height

Panaji: A girl participant at 'Goafest 2010' event, underway in Goa, had to be admitted to the city hospital after she accidentally fell from a height during a water sports activity on the beach injuring her critically, the organisers stated.

The girl, identified as Natalia Saldanha from Mumbai, was participating in the festival organised by Advertisement Agencies Association of India (AAAI) and Ad Club Bombay at Cavelossim beach, 45 kms from here. "Both the safety hooks of her parasailing rope got snapped and she fell from a height of 200 metres," an eye witness stated. She fell on the sand, but despite that she was grievously hurt, he added.

Goafest 2010 Chairman Colvyn Harris, confirming the accident, said that she was immediately given medical attention and rushed to the hospital."The accident is unfortunate and we will update you on her recovery," he said. Colva police said that they were not informed about the incident.

State Tourism Department was quick to react to the accident stating that it's shocking. "We will investigate what happened. We take utmost precaution to make sure that the water sports activities are safe," state Tourism Minister Fransisco Pacheco said.

The two-day long event concluded today with more than 3,000 professionals from advertising field participating in it.
