Patiala:
Three people including a woman were arrested by Patiala Police with 3 kg gold biscuits at the Shambhu barrier on the Punjab-Haryana border on Wednesday.
The gold is worth Rs 80 lakh in the international market.
"During random checking at the barrier we stopped and searched this vehicle and found gold biscuits which were hidden in a special package," Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, informed the media at a press conference.
"The packing in which gold was hidden is a special one and the scanners at our airport are not sophisticated enough to spot the metal wrapped inside," said Mr Singh.
The gold consignment was brought from Singapore.
The seized items and arrested persons have been handed over to the customs department for further investigations.
