Bangalore:
Alert citizens caught three eunuchs who tried to escape after snatching a gold chain worth around Rs 1 lakh from a pedestrian in Bangalore.
However, the police could not recover the entire chain. A major part of the chain was lost in the melee.
P Babu, a 42-year-old businessman from Chennai, had come to the city on a business trip.
He was walking towards a restaurant, when a eunuch subsequently identified as Pallavi, approached him and asked him the time.
While Babu was looking at his wrist watch, two other eunuchs, Smitha alias Ravi Kumar and Sunitha alias Bheema, both aged around 25 years, snatched his gold chain, which weighed 56 grams and fled.
Babu raised an alarm, following which a few pedestrians chased Pallavi and caught her. She was handed over to Upparpet Police who, following a detailed inquiry, tracked down the other two.
Sub-Inspector Chandrakala, who arrested the three eunuchs, said the eunuchs were also sex workers.
"They solicit customers in and around the Majestic area. They confessed that they also committed petty thefts.
However, no complaint had been lodged against them till this incident occurred. They have been remanded in judicial custody after a case of robbery was booked against them," she said.
