Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu:
A goods train carrying rice from a Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown from Nagercoil derailed near Checkankanni station on Sunday, but no one was hurt, railway officials said.
They said the train from Nagercoil carrying rice for Public Distribution System (PDS) shops arrived here this morning at 8.40 am. Thirty wagons remained here to enable the rice to be shifted to lorries while the other wagons were taken on a loop line.
The wagons derailed near Checkankanni breaking the blocks, they said, adding top officials rushed to the spot and ensured that through movement was restored by afternoon.
