Gorakhpur: : Several students were injured when police lathicharged them while they were taking out a candle march demanding re-evaluation of their answer sheets in Gorakhpur, officials said today.
The B.A. and B.Sc students from Deen Dayal University were marching from the varsity when police lathicharged them following which a girl fainted and several other students got injured.
The students from various affiliated colleges like St Andrews Degree College, MGP College and BRDPG College have been demanding re-evaluation of their answer sheets after failing in their respective papers.
Hearing of the lathicharge, a large number of students from various hostels of the University reached the spot and started agitating against the police and the university administration.
Mayor Dr Satya Pandey also reached the spot and took the unconscious girl to a hospital. He also promised to put people's view over the issue before Vice Chancellor PC Trivedi.
Later, the university administration also reached the spot and assured the students of re-evaluation of their exam answer books. However, the university boys are still protesting against the administration.
Yesterday was the third day of the agitation.
