Groom abducted after his brother elopes with girl

Banaskantha, Gujarat: A groom who was on his way to get married was allegedly kidnapped and some of his friends accompanying him were injured by a group of dozen men in Deesa taluk here on Sunday, police said.

In wake of this incident, local VHP leaders of Deesa taluk have declared a bandh on Monday as some youths of minority community are allegedly involved, they said, adding that two companies of State Reserve Police (SRP) have been deployed in Dhanera and Deesa taluks as a precautionary measure.

According to police, the incident took place near Rasana village when Bharatkumar Galchar, the groom, was going with the marriage party from his home in Dhanera district.

"In view of mounting tension we have called in two companies of SRP and patrolling has been intensified in the district," district superintendent of police (DSP) Harikrishna Patel told PTI.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Z M Barsat, probing the case said entire event seems to be the reaction of some members of the minority community of Dhanera.

"The groom's brother had eloped with the alleged kidnaper's sister who later got married and have settled in Ahmedabad," Barsat said, adding that this kidnapping seems to be fallout of that event.

Police further said that the groom's family has also received call from the kidnappers demanding the girl back in return of the groom.
