Ahmedabad: The detection of crime branch (DCB) on Wednesday arrested liquor king of Gujarat -- Kailash Rathi. Rathi was nabbed around 4 pm from Vadodara-Ahmedabad Express Highway. The police also seized his Innova car.
A joint operation by inspector JM Yadav and sub inspector JD Purohit resulted in the arrest of the infamous bootlegger wanted in as many as 300 bootlegging cases in the state. He was nabbed when he was travelling to Mumbai from Sanchor in Rajasthan and was about to cross the city limits.
According to police, he is the kingpin of smuggling of liquor from Chandigarh and Haryana to Gujarat. Though Rathi was wanted by police of different districts of Gujarat for 11 years, he was arrested for the first time on Wednesday.
He will be produced in court on Thursday and the DCB may seek his remand to know his modus operandi.
