Hyderabad: A 15-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in Ranga Reddy district on Friday after being pressurised to accept proposals made by a computer operator working at her school, police have said.
The girl identified as Anantha Lakshmi, studying in 10th standard in a government high school, took the extreme step last night after consuming a poisonous substance at her house, police said, adding that Lakshmi died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Tandur town.
The girl's parents lodged a complaint alleging that their daughter was being harassed by Mohammed Hafis, who worked at the school as a Computer Operator (private employee).
"The girl had been rejecting the youth's proposals. However, last evening, Hafis again approached the girl with love proposal and asked her to come with him though she again refused. It seems she was unable to bear the harassment meted out by the youth and finally ended her life," a police officer said quoting the complaint.
Bantwaram Police have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) against Hafis and have taken him into custody.
