Harassed for dowry, newly married woman ends life

Rewari: A woman allegedly committed suicide over dowry by jumping in front of a moving train, Railway Police officials said today.

Asha Yadav (27) ended her life by jumping before a moving train on the Rewari-Jaipur track yesterday, following which, a case has been registered against four persons for allegedly abetting her suicide, they said.

The Government Railway Police has booked her husband Sandeep Yadav, father-in-law Suresh Yadav, mother-in-law Prem Devi and sister-in-law (husbands sister) Poonam Yadav, all residents of Mohalla Bara Talab here for harassing her over dowry.

A case has been registered under section 498-A (subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 304-B (dowry death) of the IPC after a complaint was lodged by the deceaseds brother Pawan Yadav.

The complainant has alleged that his sister Asha, who got married to Sandeep on November 23, 2010, was persistently harassed for more dowry by her in-laws and when the situation became unbearable, she ended her life.

Asha was a teacher in the Central School at Bhakli village, near Kosli.
