Harassed motormen plan to strike in Mumbai

Mumbai: Motormen of the Central Railway, who had worked during last week's hunger strike, plan to strike work. The motormen have alleged harassment by motormen who had struck work last week.

"We are subjected to criticism almost everyday. We are called traitors and are boycotted by those who were part of last week's hunger strike," said a motorman on condition of anonymity. "They are a larger group compared to those of us who went to work."

Families of motormen who worked last week, are worried about their kin's security as their colleagues had allegedly threatened them against being loyal to the administration.

"We were stopped from going to work on the day of the strike," said another motorman. "Even now, we live in fear of being assaulted by the other motormen."

"The administration had gone soft on last week's striking clan. So, we might as well strike work against this harassment. If they have not acted against them, they shouldn't act against us either." he reasoned.

A union leader of the Central Railway said people need not take the issue seriously. "When a strike takes place and workers are divided, such a boycott is natural."

Central Railway Public Relations Officer AK Singh said, "We will look into the matter."
