Pune:
Noted social worker, Anna Hazare, on Tuesday was ordered by a city court to pay a fine of Rs 500 for repeatedly not appearing before it.
President of Rashtriya Bhrashtachar Virodhi Janashakti, Hemant Patil, filed a private complaint in 2005 against Hazare for allegedly misusing Rs 2.6 lakh of public money from the Hind Swaraj Trust, for celebrating his 61st birthday.
Hazare was elusive on appearing before the court. On Tuesday, Hazare again did not appear before the court of judicial magistrate (first class) HU Joshi.
Patil's lawyer, Mayura Tarukhkar, argued before the court that justice was being delayed due to Hazare's repeated absence.
Taking note of the argument, the court ordered Hazare to pay a fine of Rs500 and appear before the court on the next date, December 28.
The court had ordered Hazare to pay a fine of Rs 100 on June 4 this year for not appearing before it in the case.
