Thanjavur:
A local court on Friday fined a head constable Rs 1,000 for violating human rights of a van driver of a private company whom be beat up in November last year for reportedly not returning the amount due to a tea agent.
According to the complainant's brother, the head constable and an inspector of Kumbakonam South beat him up on November 10, 2010 for reportedly not returning Rs 15,000 due to the agent.
Pushparaj's brother preferred a complaint against the two police officials to the Kumbakonam RDO Chandra Mohan, who accepted it and proceeded against the duo with the District Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
The case was transferred to the Human Rights Court and Principal Sessions Court on November 25, 2010.
In the interim, the Inspector passed away.
District Principal Sessions Court Judge Ramalingam fined head constable Dakshinamurthy Rs 1000 for violating the human rights of van driver Pushparaj by beating him up.
