Ferozpur: In a joint operation, Punjab Police and Counter Intelligence sleuths on Wednesday recovered a large quantity of heroin allegedly smuggled from Pakistan worth over Rs 60 crore from a village along the Indo-Pak border in Ferozpur.
Senior SP Ferozepur Varinder Pal Singh said that following an intelligence input regarding arrival of a consignment of contraband from Pakistan, the police was tracking some suspected drug peddlers for the last few days.
He said this morning, a special squad of police along with intelligence sleuths laid a trap near village Wahka under Mamdot police station when they spotted three motorcycle borne persons coming from the border side.
However, two persons identified as Sucha Singh and Angrej Singh were apprehended while their accomplice Bohar Singh managed to escape, he said.
The police was working on some more leads to track down the nexus between cross border drug peddlers and kingpins behind the drug racket, he added.
