Indore:
A one-year old infant was shot dead by a history-sheeter in the Rustam Ka Bagicha locality here, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred last night in the Rustam Ka Bagicha locality when the accused Birju Laxminarayan (35), in an inebriated condition, went to extort money from the victim's maternal grandfather Babulal, a grocery shop owner, they said.
Following an argument, Birju suddenly fired at the temple of the victim Arman Bhise, who was sitting on the lap of his grandfather, from close range with a country-made pistol, killing him on the spot, police said.
The accused tried to escape but the crowd overpowered and thrashed him before he was arrested by the police, they said.
The accused has more than 20 serious criminal cases registered against him, police said.
