Hit by Mercedes, school girl loses toes

Faridabad: Two schoolgirls will have trouble walking for the rest of their lives because a Mercedes that was speeding hit their two-wheeler. The driver abandoned the car and ran away, instead of trying to help them.

The accident took place in Delhi's suburb of Faridabad. Loveleen Kaur and Sanjana Bhatia were headed home from their Chemistry tuition class at about 8:30 pm on Loveleen's scooty. A Mercedes collided with them. The driver tried to escape in the car but a burst tyre forced him to skid to a stop.

The luxury car is owned by a local industrialist named PL Gupta.

After hours in the Intensive Care Unit, all the toes on Loveleen's right foot have been amputated. Sanjana has a serious fracture in her right leg, steel plates have been inserted. Both girls are in Class 12 at Delhi Public School, Faridabad.

Eyewitnesses say there were at least three people in the car. The driver, however, has told the police he was alone.
