HIV positive woman delivers child in ambulance

Vadodara: An HIV positive woman from the nearby Dabhoi town delivered a child in an ambulance on Friday after two hospitals refused to admit her and she was being driven to a government hospital.

Her husband Dharmesh Thakor who is also HIV positive alleged that his wife, suffering from HIV, had to deliver her child in an ambulance after two local hospitals in the town, a community based health centre and another hospital run by a private trust refused to admit her on coming to know that she was HIV positive.

"Although she was complaining of acute labour pain, they (hospital authorities) refused to admit her and guided me to take her to the Gujarat government run Sir Sayajirao Hospital in Vadodara," Thakor said, adding that on her way to the hospital, she delivered the child in the ambulance at Thuvavi village.

"The staff in the ambulance helped her in safe delivery "said Thakor.
