How sweet is sweet? Rs 30,000-a-kilo mithai
Lucknow: Feast your eyes on the accompanying pictures - because the real thing is Rs 30,000 a kilo.

Hello, mithai named Exotica.

In Lucknow, a shop named Chappan Bhog explains what makes the  Diwali offering so special.  Pine nuts which cost 3000 rupees a kilo;  saffron which costs 2 lakh rupees a kilo; and  gold powder which costs 20 lakh rupees a kilo.  He won't explain how much of each precious ingredient is used.  Chefs always keep a few secrets up their sleeves - especially when there's Rs 30,000 at stake for every kilo.

There are some, apparently, for whom this price tag is not a deterrant.  The shop's  owner says just 20 kilograms are being produced today and tomorrow. "We want our clients to know they can meet their loved ones and offer them something that proves how special they are," says Rajesh Gupta.

Many orders have been placed over the internet, and the Exotica is being couriered to cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Apparently, some people like their families and friends more than the rest of us.
