Howrah: Major fire at paints factory, no casualty

Fire fighters try to control a fire that broke out at a paints company in Najirgangue, Howrah, West Bengal.

Howrah, West Bengal: A major fire broke out at the factory of Shalimar Paints at Nazirganj in Howrah district early today as fire services personnel battled the blaze for over six hours.

Fire Brigade sources said the flames, which started from the quality testing centre at around 3-30 am, later spread to adjacent parts including the paints godown, but there was no casualty.

Thirty-one fire tenders were pressed into service to put off the blaze which was finally contained around 10 am.

One fire services personnel fell ill during the operations but he was discharged later.

The facility was spread over 20,000 square feet area, some of the workers present said.

A company spokesman said, "There has been an unfortunate fire outbreak incident at our Howrah factory.
(And) There have been no casualties."

"The fire broke out early this morning and we are investigating the reason behind the incident," the spokesperson said.

Fire services personnel were busy removing the debris from the site.
