Kolkata: A raging fire at the Ultadanga slum near the railway line in north Kolkata has left 500 homes completely charred and about 2000 people affected. The fire was finally put out on Tuesday evening.
One person died in the fire and local train services to and from Sealdah were also hit with the fire spreading close to the railway station.
Fifteen fire engines were rushed to the spot, but got delayed because of a road blockade by auto rickshaw drivers. Once they reached, heavy winds proved an impediment in controlling the fire.
