Thane: A man was booked for allegedly harassing his wife for dowry, police said on Thursday.
Yatin Patkar (31), along with his mother Nutan (62), was booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) among others on the complaint of his 25-year-old wife, they said.
The woman, an engineering graduate, was married to Yatin a year ago, Dombivali police sub-inspector Rohini Sonar said.
According to the complainant, the accused allegedly subjected her to physical and mental torture while the mother-in-law forcibly took away her ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh.
The police registered the case only after the intervention of the deputy commissioner of police of the zone.
Police have also slapped section 377 of Indian Penal Code for unnatural offences.
