Hyderabad municipal workers refuse to clean garbage

Hyderabad: From hi-tech city to stinking city - this is what Hyderabad has become, with municipal workers not clearing garbage, as part of the week long non-cooperation agitation started by pro-Telangana employees on Thursday.

"Banjara Hills, Road No 1 is one of the posh colonies of Hyderabad. With the municipal workers staying away from work, all garbage is lying around. If it is like this in a VIP colony, you can imagine, what would be the condition elsewhere,'' said one of the residents of the area.

Another one complains, "If they don't work in government offices, that may still be okay. But if garbage is not cleared like this and is overflowing everywhere, what will happen?''

Nearly two and a half lakh government employees from Telangana have joined the civil disobedience movement, demanding 42 per cent of the government jobs for people from the region.

"Our demands: 42 per cent jobs, implementation of 610 GO for employees and ratifying the making of Hyderabad into a free zone,'' said Swamy Goud, Telangana Government employees JAC.

Andhra Pradesh Minister Anam Ramnarayan said, "They are also part of the government. They must work for people. We are asking them to rethink and stop the non-cooperation.''

Whether it is love for Telangana or fear of rampage, the two-day bandh has kept people off the road, inside their homes.
