Hyderabad:
Violating stipulated speed limit and jumping signals in Hyderabad now may not go unchecked as the city traffic police have shifted to a hi-tech system which would not only photograph such errant drivers but would also automatically issue an e-challan against them.
The 'Automated Traffic Red Light Violation Enforcement System' and 'Speed Violation Enforcement System' were on Saturday launched by state Director General of Police, R R Girish Kumar.
"We are shifting from relation-based policing to rule-based policing which would not only automatically monitor violators but also issue challans against them," he said.
To begin with, the 'Automated Traffic Red Light Violation Enforcement System' has been installed at ten traffic junctions out of the 370 junctions in the city at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) C V Anand said in order to keep a check on those who jump signals, electronic sensors have been placed on road stretches at 10 places. The sensors are connected to video and digital cameras mounted on poles erected on road dividers which will capture their photographs.
The number plate of the vehicles would also be photographed, he added.
During night, flash light will get activated along with the cameras to capture the images of the violators, which is a continuous process.
The data will be stored in an Industrial PC connected to the cameras and sent to the server located at the e-Challan section. Once the e-Challan is generated, it will be sent to the vehicle owner in the form of inland letter containing details like photographic evidence, date, location and place of violation asking them to pay the fine, Anand said.
"If the violator neglects the notice, the same data will be sent to (Personal Digital Assistant) PDA system and the violator will be detained at any location of PDA checking point by traffic personnel," the senior Traffic official said.
The 'Speed Violation Enforcement System' which is a mobile traffic surveillance and enforcement system, photographs vehicles violating speed limit of 50 km/hr set for Hyderabad city, he added.
