Hyderabad police to act against Inspector accused of raping minor

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police on Thursday said disciplinary action would be taken against a Madannapet Inspector who is accused of raping a minor.

"We have already registered a criminal case against Madannapet inspector, N Rangaswamy. Now departmental action will be initiated against him," Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan told reporters.

Central Crime Station, a wing of city police, had registered a case under IPC section 376 (rape) against Rangaswamy after a man yesterday complained that he had "sexually exploited" his 16-year-old daughter.

Khan said, as per the allegation "what the Inspector has committed is a misconduct" and such things will not be tolerated.

On Rangaswamy's arrest, the officer said, "He has not reported for duty ever since the matter came to light. It is (arrest) a matter of time, let the investigation complete."

Khan said a detailed report against the inspector was being prepared and further action (suspension) will be taken after its completion.

The victim's mother is a constable at the Commissioner's office. After the couple's divorce the girl was living with her father. Rangaswamy, who was close to the family, allegedly developed "intimacy" with the girl, according to police.
