I am drunk, I want to sleep, says cop on duty

Mumbai: As Mumbaikars celebrated Gatari Amavasya, made merry, and invited the month of Shravan with the utmost fervor, Prakash Sawant, a constable posted at the Cooper Hospital, didn't want to be left out.

Sawant was fast asleep when a reporter approached him at the hospital, posing as a patient. The room reeked of alcohol and Sawant was sprawled on the table, unaware of the happenings around him. The phone's receiver was also kept off the hook so that no one could disturb him.

Sawant refused to budge, even after being reminded that it was against the law to be sleeping on duty.

"Come after some time -- right now I am sleeping," was the response.

"Today is Gatari and I have already celebrated it. I am drunk, and want to sleep, please don't disturb me," he stammered.

On being persisted, he retorted, "Mind your own business and let me sleep. I don't feel good because I have had one too many."
