IIT boy confesses to killing Patna girl in Shimla hotel
Shimla: The IIT-Roorkee student who accompanied the Patna girl found murdered at hotel in Shimla has confessed to killing her.

The 22-year-old was found murdered at the hotel in Shimla on Saturday.

Shimla Superintendent of Police R M Sharma said Gaurav Verma, a third year student at IIT Roorkee, checked into the hotel along with a girl around 3 am. They had come from Delhi in a taxi.

When the two did not come out of room during the day, the hotel staff got suspicious and found the room locked from outside. The room was opened in the presence of the police and the girl found murdered while the boy was missing.

On examination, a team of the state forensic team said prima facie it seems the boy had consumed liquor and stabbed the girl to death.

The police contacted IIT Roorkee and boy's parents in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, for details about the boy. Sharma said he contacted Gonda's Superintendent of Police and requested him to arrest Verma. A Shimla Police team also left for Gonda to arrest the boy.

Gaurav was then nabbed by the GRP police at Jagadri railway station in Haryana.

"Firstly, we got a message from the control room that there was a boy called Prashant on the train from Haridwar, whose real name was Gaurav Verma. And that he has murdered a girl in Shimla, said Deshraj, the investigation officer in the case. (With PTI input)
