In Odisha, undertrial jumps jail boundary wall and escapes

Behrampur: An undertrial today escaped from the special sub-jail at Bhanjanagar in Odisha's Ganjam district allegedly by jumping the wall, police said.

Biswanath Nayak (35) of Badangi village was lodged at the jail since 2010 in an attempt to murder case.

He was believed to have jumped the jail boundary wall by pretending to pluck flower for the celebration of Hanuman Jayanti in the jail, jail officials said.

"We have intimated the incident to the police," said jailor U N Patra.

On February 12 on Shankranti Day, at least two undertrial prisoners had also escaped from the same jail after gunning down Kalia Swain, one of their co-inmates.

Police had again arrested the fugitives after an encounter with them some hours after the incident.
