Hyderabad : An indefinite curfew was imposed today in the sensitive Madannapet and Saidabad areas of the walled city following incidents of stabbing and heavy stone-pelting.

Additional forces have been deployed there, a senior police official said. The Director General of Police also toured the affected areas.

According to the police, trouble broke out around 7 AM today after locals reportedly found "meat" lying near a religious place in Kurumaguda that "provoked" members of a particular community.

Police then had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the mobs. "Miscreants also pelted stones at buses and set at least two vehicles on fire. Two incidents of stabbing have also been reported," the police official said.
