Isolated and withdrawn siblings rescued in Bihar

Shivpuri, Bihar: In a grim reminder of the case of the Noida sisters who had confined and starved themselves for over six months, Bihar Police have rescued two siblings, Babu and his sister Sujata, who had locked themselves up for over two years.

Faced with a number of family tragedies, the two siblings, one of them a former journalist, completely isolated themselves and locked themselves up at their home in Shivpuri under S K Puri police station here, police said.

When Suman Lal of NGO 'Prayas' came to know about them, he contacted police, who rescued both Babu (32) and Sujata (28) in emaciated condition on Monday night, Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar said.

Sujata, who had worked as a journalist before, has been sent to a mental hospital because she is suffering from acute depression, while her brother was admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital.

The siblings had been struck by a string of tragedies first with the death of their father Braj Kishore Singh, who retired as Additional District Magistrate, Chapra.

Their mother Godawari Devi and younger brother Vicky then died in quick succession while sister Nita went missing which was the last straw for the brother-sister duo.
