Itanagar:
A three-year-old child died and seven others seriously injured when a steel Bailey bridge on Hayuliang-Wallong BRO road at Kherang in Arunachal's Anjaw district collapsed under the weight of a 12-wheeler truck laden with a crusher machine, official sources said today.
There were eight persons in the truck during the accident which occurred yesterday, sources said.
The child and another injured person were immediately rushed to Hawai community health center, where the child was declared dead.
The condition of the other was reported to be stable.
The remaining six injured, including the driver and the handyman, were brought to Hayuliang, where three are being treated by doctors.
The other three, including the mother of the child, have been referred to Dibrugarh (Assam), sources said.
Local MLA Kalikho Pul said he had discussion with the Army, the BRO, the district administration and the contractor concerned about restoring the bridge at the earliest.
