The state government has decided to implement a new law to protect the rights of senior citizens. The Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act also looks out for the needs of those who don't have children. In their cases, legal heirs are responsible for maintenance which includes food, clothing, housing and medical expenses.
Nitish Kumar's government will also open an old-age home in every district headquarter that will be able to accomodate 150 senior citizens. Preference will be given to those below the poverty line or to seniors who have no children or legal heirs to look after them.
