Jaipur:
The King of Pop Michael Jackson has ruled hearts and now he's set to rule the skies in Jaipur. Makar Sankranti on January 14 is a big kite flying day in the Pink City when countless kites blaze a riot of colours across the city sky. But this year, besides kites with Bollywood stars, it is kites on MJ that are doing brisk business.
Kites on MJ are not just a tribute to the King of Pop but also a special mantra to attract kite enthusiasts and boost sales.
"Through kites on Michael Jackson, I wanted the whole world to remember him. People are so crazy for him that everyone is now demanding kites of Michael Jackson. I put a lot of effort in creating them and people's response to them is terrific," said Rasheed Khan, a kite seller.
Besides the Jackson variety, kites on hot couples - Salman-Katrina and Aishwarya-Abhishek will also fly in the clouds and airborne clashes between Bollywood biggies like Shahrukh, Aamir and Akshay Kumar will add to people's fun on the festival.
"Shahrukh Khan is my son's favourite star and that's why we have bought lots of kites with Shahrukh on them," said an excited kite shopper.
"They will specially try to cut my Salman Khan kites, who is my favourite. We'll fly kites of both the stars and see who wins between the two," said the excited kite shopper's husband.
While the price bug has also hit the festival and costs have risen by nearly 30per cent, there's no drop in people's enthusiasm for kite flying. Experts say kites and kite threads of over Rs 50 crore will be sold in Jaipur for the festival.
