Jaipur: A spat over collection of donations for Navratra turned violent when a man was beaten to death by two youths at Jhalrapatan town in Jhalawar district of the state.
Tension prevailed in the town and heavy police was deployed at the spot of the incident to disperse the angry mob.
The police said that the incident took place at around 8 am on Monday when two unidentified youths came to the house of Tejkaran, 35, and asked him to pay a sum of `10 as a donation for the Navratra celebrations.
As a part of the Navratra celebrations many youths were going from house-to-house collecting donations for the Navratra, Durga Puja and Dussehra.
"However, Tejkaran refused to pay the donation as he suspected that the youths were going to collect the money and later on have a booze party with it. While refusing to part with the money Tejkaran accused the youths, who came to collect money, of partying with the donation money," an investigating police officer of the case told DNA on Monday.
Soon a violent scuffle triggered between Tejkaran and the unidentified youths who beat up Tejkaran black and blue," the police added.
As they were beating him he suddenly fell down and became unconscious. Noticing this the youths fled from the scene.
Tejkaran was then rushed to the hospital with the help of neighbours where he was declared brought dead.
The police later registered a case of murder against two persons who were yet to be identified and a massive hunt has been launched in the district to nab the assailants.
"A few persons were detained in this connection and we are sure to arrest the actual culprits behind this unfortunate incident," a senior police officer of Jhalawar district said.
