Jaipur:
Demanding the vice-chancellor not to write letter for the implementation of 6th pay commission before the promotion and increment is done, a section of assistant professors of Rajasthan University (RU) went on hunger strike on Monday. Later they withdrew their strike following an assurance from the power and higher education minister of the state, Jitendra Singh.
These teachers had sat on strike on the same issue last week as well. During the syndicate meeting, it was decided that the issue will be taken to the government but the teachers were not satisfied with the decision and they went on hunger strike again on Monday.
"The university hasn't received any letter from the government saying no to the increment then why to proceed with 6th pay commission. We should wait for the government's response first and then sixth pay commission should be implemented. We sat on hunger strike today to sort out the same issue." said Om Mahala, an RU assistant professor.
Later, on an assurance by the minister Jitendra Singh, the teachers withdrew their strike in afternoon.
"The minister assured us that a decision will be taken in our interest. We agreed and ended the strike," added Mahala.
