Jammu-Srinagar highway closed after heavy snowfall

Srinagar: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic on Saturday due to snowfall at Jawahar tunnel, about 200 km from Srinagar.

There was heavy snowfall on Banihal-Jawahar tunnel in the Qazigund sector of the highway, making the road very slippery, traffic police officials said.

Over 300 to 400 vehicles are stranded at various points of the highway.

Personnel of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have been pressed into service to clear the highway off snow.
