Jamshedpur: Three Medical Students Arrested for Ransacking Shops

Jamshedpur: Three students of the M G M Medical College in Jamshedpur were taken into custody on Tuesday after they allegedly ransacked some shops near Dimna chowk late in the evening, a senior police officer said.

The incident occurred after an altercation, which led local residents as well as shop-keepers to take to the streets in protest.

The angry mob put up road blockade for sometime demanding immediate action against the students of the medical college, police said.

"We have taken three medical students into custody and further action was being taken," said Senior Superintendent of Police, Amol V Homkar.

Homkar said the situation was brought under control and adequate police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

Superintendent of Police (city), Karthik S, who reached the spot to take stock of the situation, said the clash broke out between students of the medical college and a school following an altercation over an issue.

One student of the medical college suffered a head injury in the incident, he said, adding that a group of medical college came out in search of the rival group and chased them in retaliation.

The injured student was rushed to a government hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.

The students of the medical college allegedly ransacked the shops, in which the rival group members have reportedly rushed in to take shelter, he said.
