Agartala: A jawan of the Tripura State Rifles allegedly shot dead his wife and four in-laws after they objected to his illegal second marriage at Bagabil in Dhalai district of Tripura, police said.
Inspector General (IG) Police Control Nepal Das said, The accused, Bijoy Reang, escaped from his camp at Lalcherra with an AK-47 rifle and went to the house of his father-in-law Kutibasi Tripura and shot him dead at about 10 PM on Friday.
The jawan also allegedly shot dead his wife Fuli Tripura, mother-in-law, brother in-law and sister-in-law. The IG (Police Control) said the jawan had a soured relation with his wife as he illegally married another woman. His wife had earlier lodged a complaint to the authority and a departmental inquiry was on against him.
The accused is still absconding. Mr Das said all police stations and Border Security Force (BSF) were alerted so that he could not sneak into neighbouring country Bangladesh.
