Baripada, Orissa:
An Army jawan working under Bihar Regiment allegedly committed suicide after killing his wife and two children in Orissas Mayurbhanj district, police said on Monday.
The jawan, identified as Parau Murmu (27), was presently posted at Uttarakhand, the police said adding that his 24-year-old wife Laxmi, five-year-old son Mehswar and two-and-half year old daughter Mitali were also found dead inside their living room.
While his wife and children were strangulated, the jawans body was found hanging from the ceiling, police said.
The incident took place at Badadega village under Badampahad police station area, about 110 km from here. Murmu had returned to the village on the occasion of Durga Puja on October 11, police added.
The jawan's 65-year-old mother Mala Murmu raised an alarm yesterday after she found her son's room closed till noon.
The villagers broke open the door and informed the police. The bodies were recovered today, the police added.
Rairangpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Rajgopal Kar said that the incident could have emanated from suspicion of the character of the wife.
