Former West Bengal chief minister and veteran Communist leader Jyoti Basu is unwell and has been admitted to hospital.
The Communist leader, who is down with fever and chest congestion, was brought to the AMRI hospital at Salt Lake in Kolkata, with oxygen support. He also had an X-Ray test at the hospital.
Doctors attending on suspect that Jyoti Basu have pneumonia and have been put on antibiotics. However, his condition stable.
Earlier, doctors had said that the he is suffering from cold. The doctors took the decision to admit him after examining him again in the evening.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called West Bengal ChiefMinister Buddhadeb to enquire about Basu's health. Senior communistleaders Somnath Chatterjee and Biman Bose also visited the hospital inwhich Basu has been admitted.
The 95 years old, Jyoti Basu, was last admitted to hospital in July 2009 after he fainted at his residence following breathing trouble.
