Katraj zoo in search of a logo

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)-managed Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park (RGZP) in Katraj will soon have its own logo. The park authorities have organised a competition for Puneites to create an appropriate logo for the organisation.

A statement issued by the zoo education officer, Ashwini Shitole, on Monday said that those interested can submit the logos along with a 100-word writeup about the logo to the authorities. The last date for submitting entries is November 10.

The results of the competition will be declared on November 14 and the winner would be given a citation and cash award. Those interested can visit the zoo in person and hand over the logo and the writeup to the authorities.

"Although the zoo started functioning in 1999, it does not have a logo of its own. RGZP is a member of the International Species Information System (ISIS) and hence it is imperative for the park to have a logo of its own," officials said.

ISIS is an international non-profit organisation serving zoos and aquariums worldwide. It provides members with world standard zoological data collection and sharing software, used by more than 800 zoos and aquariums in almost 80 countries. The database contains information on 10,000 species.

Members use the basic biological information (age, sex, parentage, place of birth, circumstance of death, etc.) collected in the ISIS system to care for and manage their animal collections, including demographic and genetic management.

"ISIS is developing a new software based on Zoological Information Management System so that each ISIS member has its own logo, which can be used on letterheads and website," the officials said. For details, contact 020-24367712.
