Kollam, Kerala:
An irate crowd torched a private bus that fatally knocked down a middle-aged man and
his daughter at Bharanikkavu, said the police.
The mob which witnessed the incident ordered the passengers and the crew to get down from the bus and smashed it with stones and rods before setting it ablaze, it said. The victims were identified as Sasidharan and his daughter Athira.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus hit and ran over the victims while they were about to cross the road.
A sizeable crowd present at the spot immediately surrounded the bus and started attacking it, alleging that reckless driving and overspeeding had been causing frequent accidents in the area.
They said the authorities had declined to heed to their complaints as the area witnessed a similar mishap in the recent past.
Police said no arrest had been made so far as the bus crew fled the scene.
