Kohima:
Two people were arrested for allegedly smuggling a huge quantity of contraband substance from the Khuzama Check Gate in Kohima district, Nagaland, an excise department official said today.
According to Deputy Commissioner Excise (narcotics) Pitongse Sangtam, Nagaland Excise Department narcotic cell personnel manning the interstate check gate at Khuzama, seized from the two people, four kg of opium worth around Rs 12 lakh in the international market.
This was the biggest opium haul ever in the state, he claimed. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act 1985, he added.
